Hermeneutic Attitude and Its Application in Islamic World: Derivational Approach

Abstract

This research addresses one of the most prominent intellectual frameworks and epistemological methodologies that garner widespread attention in academic circles, both in the Western world and the Islamic world: the subject of hermeneutics. This framework and methodology are manifested in various forms in the West, from the Greek era to the modern age. While it was initially specialized for the interpretation of the Holy Bible, it did not remain confined to this scope; rather, it gradually expanded to encompass all phenomena. This methodology subsequently entered the Islamic world, where it found significant reception among secular currents, owing to the foundations and principles it offers that serve the purpose of altering and Westernizing religious readings. Utilizing a descriptive, analytical, and critical methodology, through a review of published books and studies, this research sheds light on this imported methodology. There is an exposition of its foundations and various classifications, the study examines its manifestations in the Islamic world and among the most prominent figures of the secular movement, concluding with critical insights.
