The current paper aims to develop a proposed strategy based on the theory of Logical Weighting and to examine its effect on the achievement and Compatible Thinking (Al-Tafkir Al-Musayir) of fifth-grade literary stream students. The researcher employed both descriptive and quasi-experimental methodological approaches, utilizing an experimental design with partial control and a post-test. The research population consisted of fifth-grade literary stream students in the Baghdad Education Directorate (Al-Rusafa 2). A research sample of 62 students was randomly selected from Oqba bin Nafi Preparatory School for Boys. The researcher ensured equivalence between the experimental and control groups across several variables: chronological age, academic motivation, prior academic achievement, linguistic ability, and compatible thinking.
To measure outcomes, the researcher constructed an achievement test comprising 30 objective items and 10 essay-type items. The second research instrument was a post-test scale for compatible thinking, consisting of 30 items. The researcher identified the Arabic grammar topics to be taught to the research sample and derived 87 behavioral objectives. Furthermore, the researcher prepared a teacher’s manual containing the procedural steps for the proposed strategy, along with 8 lesson plans for the experimental group and 8 lesson plans for the control group. A student workbook containing activities and exercises was also developed. The experiment was conducted during the first semester of the 2022/2023 academic year. Using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), the researcher documented statistically significant differences in favor of the students in the experimental group.
The researcher recommends the adoption of the proposed strategy in teaching Arabic language courses and suggests conducting similar studies focusing on other variables, such as linguistic security and literary imagination.
