Abstract

The aim of the current research is to know the effectiveness of the active learning strategy (X, O) in achieving and developing social tolerance among middle school students in the science subject. In order to achieve the research goal, the following two hypotheses have been formulated: -

1 - There is no statistically significant difference at the level (0.05) between the mean scores of students of the experimental group who studied according to the active learning strategy (X, O) and the students of the control group who studied according to the usual method of achievement

2- There is no statistically significant difference at the level (0.05) between the mean scores of students of the experimental group who studied according to the active learning strategy (X, O) and the students of the control group who studied according to the usual method in developing social tolerance.

The sample of the research reached (90) female students from   the first intermediate class students in Al-Rafah Secondary School for Girls in the Holy Karbala for the academic year 2018-2019, Division (e) represented the experimental group and its number (45) students studying according to the active learning strategy (X, O) and Division (B) The control group, consisting of (45) female students, is taught according to the regular method. The researcher rewarded between the two research groups in (age in months, intelligence, achievement prior to the end of the first course), behavioral goals numbered (152) were formulated as behavioral goals, and the researcher prepared (31) a study plan for the experimental group and (31) a study plan for the control group, the research tools were By constructing the achievement test, honesty, reliability, discrimination, difficulty, ease, and efficacy of alternatives for this test and a measure of social tolerance were calculated.

The results showed the superiority of the students of the experimental group that studied with active learning strategy (X, O) over the students of   the control group who studied the usual way in the achievement and the measure of social tolerance

In light of the results of the research, the researcher recommended using the active learning strategy (X, O) in teaching, and the researcher suggested conducting other studies to reveal the effect of the active learning strategy (X, O) on other variables such as habits of the mind, scientific culture, contemplative thinking, motivation.
